It was renamed Corbin in 1866 to honor William Corbin who was a judge from the area and later became an important railroad stop on the Tennessee Railroad.

9) Harrodsburg- This city is located along the Salt River in Mercer County and has a population of about 13,000 residents. It was first settled in 1774 by James Harrod who was part of a group of people known as "The Immigrants." The city was later named after its founder in 1787 and is know for being the oldest permanent community established by Americans west of the Appalachians and north of the Ohio River at that time.
